This Week for the Saints: The Siena Heights University women's lacrosse team hosts Indiana Tech in their first WHAC and home contest of the 2021 season. 
 
Head Coach: Alexa Matta is in her second season as the head coach for the Saints. She currently has a 2-2 record as the 2020 season was cut short after just four games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Matta's familiarity with the WHAC came as a four-year starter for the Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team from 2012-16. 
 
History: Siena Heights is  59-58 all-time in women's lacrosse. The Saints are 10-12 the past two seasons (2020 was cut short after just two games due to COVID). The team has had back-to-back seasons with a winning record in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference after a 5-4 campaign in the 2019 season and a 4-2 mark in 2018. The 2018 team made history as the first Saint women's lacrosse team to achieve a berth in the NAIA national tournament.
 
At Home: Siena Heights is 25-26 all-time in home contests. They are 2-6 all-time in home-opening games since the program started in 2011. They have faced Indian Tech for three of their home openers with a record 0-3 in those games.
 
On The Road: The Saints are 1-1 in away games so far in the season. They upset 10th-ranked Marian University winning 11-2. They lost to the 2nd-ranked University of the Cumberlands with a score of 18-4.
 
Spectator Policy: Family members of SHU Student-athletes and a limited number of the Siena Heights Community (Faculty, Students, and Staff) will be allowed to attend SHU Athletic home events held within the stadium. Due to potential freezing rain, ice, and snow, Siena Heights University athletics and the Department of Safety will make a determination the day before all contests held at the stadium on whether the stands are safe for spectators to attend. Last Week Recap: Siena Heights 11, Marian 2
The Saints took a 3-0 lead within the first ten minutes of the game as Cirino scored two goals and Jenna Sommerville (Sr. | Clarkston, Mich.) scored a goal. Sommerville scored her second and third goals of the game that sparked six-straight goals for SHU as Cirino scored her third goal of the game and Emily Pringle (So. | Novi, Mich.) scored three goals as they pulled ahead 9-1. The Saints kept the momentum going as they scored two goals in the first eight minutes of the second half as Cirino earned her fourth goal of the game and Katherine Tapia (Sr. | Saline, Mich.) recorded her only goal of the game to update the score 11-1. SHU was solid in net as Elizabeth Elliott (Sr. | Canton, Mich.) made 19 of the 21 shots she faced. Marian outshot the Saints 27-19 but failed to make many of those shots count.
 
Cumberlands 18, SHU 4
The Patriots took a 3-0 lead within the first eight minutes of the game. The Saints cut the deficit to two points as Marissa Cirino (Jr. | Canton, Mich.) netted the ball at the 22:19 mark. Pringle earned her first goal of the game for SHU at the 18:42 mark to update the score to 5-2. Bella Ricchiazzi scored two more goals as Emily Heim assisted one of them to send the game into halftime with them in the lead 7-2. Siena started off the second half with Pringle recording her second goal of the game with 25:55 left on the clock. Bella Ricchiazzi scored her fourth goal of the game that sparked seven-straight goals for the Patriots as they pulled ahead 14-3. Alexis Nicole (Sr. | Portage, Mich.) scored the final goal of the game for the Saints from a pass by Cirino at the 12:40 mark. Cumberlands went on to score four more goals in the remainder of the second half to secure them the 18-4 win.
 
Series History: Indiana Tech holds the all-time record against SHU 16-0. They have a home record of 7-0, an away record of 9-0, and a conference record of 14-0. The Warrior's largest margin on victory was in the 2016 season on March 23rd when they won 21-2 at O'Laughlin Stadium in Adrian. Indiana Tech's smallest margin of victory was in the 2019 season when they won 15-13 at O'Laughlin Stadium in Adrian. The last time the two teams met was in the 2019 season on April 25th in Fort Wayne with the Warriors winning 16-7.
 
Scouting Reports: Indiana Tech - The Warriors have a 1-1 record so far this season. They lost against 8th-ranked Concordia (17-7) on February 27th and won against 10th-ranked Marian (8-7) on March 13th. Abbey Wilson has one game-winning goal, leads the team with 14 ground balls, and leads the time with 5 draw controls. Abby Barkdull leads Indiana Tech with 5 goals, 5 points, 18 shots, and 13 shots on goal. Brooke Buhr has a team-high of 3 assists. Halli Reindhard leads the team with 6 caused turnovers. Jordan Donally leads the Warriors in net with 12 saves off 17 goals against, a save percentage of .414 and a 0-1 record.
