Saints Cruise Past Barons in Pennsylvania

BEAVER FALLS, P.A. -- The (RV) Siena Heights women's lacrosse rolled past Franciscan University 20-10, on Saturday afternoon at a neutral site of Wright Field in Pennsylvania. Jenna Sommerville (Junior, Clarkston, Mich.) led the Saints as she scored eight goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Siena Heights scored 16 of the game's first 22 goals. The Saints came out hot as they scored three goals in a row within the first two minutes of the game by Sommerville and Natalie Williams (Senior, South Lyon, Mich.) assisted by Katherine Tapia (Senior, Saline, Mich.) and Marissa Cirino (Junior, Canton, Mich.). Grace Deegan got the Barons on the board as she scored off a dish from Maria Hilkert to be down 3-1. Siena would go on to score eight straight goals, led by three from Sommerville and two from Cirino with three of them being free-position goals. Franciscan broke the streak as they scored three goals in a row with two by Deegan. The Saints scored five more goals as five different players earned a goal and one of them being a free-position goal. The Barons scored two more goals before the end of the first half, but Siena took a 16-6 lead into intermission.

The second half was more balanced between the teams as each team scored four goals and exchanged them back and forth. Deegan scored first for the Barons within four minutes of the half. The Saints went on to score two goals in a row by Cirino and Sommerville, one of which was a free-position goal. Annie King cut the deficit to 10 goals as she scored one off an assist from Hilkert. Siena's next two goals were from Williams and Sommerville, one assist by Cirino and one a free-position goal. Franciscan scored the final two goals both from Deegan and one assisted by Hilkert to end the game with the Saints earning a 20-10 victory. 

TOP SAINTS

• Sommerville had eight goals from her total of nine shots.

• Cirino tallied four goals, two assists, one groundball, six draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

• Williams recorded three goals and one draw control. 

• Elizabeth Elliott (Junior, Canton, Mich.) had five saves in the 60 minutes of play.

THE OPPOSITION

• Deegan led the Barons with seven goals, one draw control, and caused one turnover.

• King recorded two goals, four draw controls, and one caused turnover.

• Dominique Tedrow made six saves in the 60 minutes between the pipes.
