Sommerville and Winn Lead Women's Lacrosse and Earn WHAC First Team Honors

Siena Heights women's lacrosse athletes Jenna Sommerville and Reilly Winn headline this year's Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference honorees as the were named to the All-Conference first team as announced by the league over the weekend. Marissa Cirino, Kayla Parks and Samantha Pawlowski were all named to the All-WHAC second team while five Saints were members of the All-Academic team. 

Sommerville and Winn were the only two freshman honored as part of the first team all-conference. Attack, Jenna Sommerville finished the season with 62 goals and five assists for 67 total points for the Saints. Defender, Winn led the Saints with 39 caused turnovers and was third on the team with 46 ground balls. Both student-athletes competed in 17 games this season. 

Sophomore Marissa Cirino and senior Kayla Parks, both midfielders, were named to the all-conference second team along with junior defender, Samanth Pawlowski. Parks contributed 39 goals and nine assists while leading the team with 66 ground balls and chipping in a team second best, 32 caused turnovers. Cirino helped the Saints by scoring 42 goals (tied for second on the team) and leading the way for SHU with 30 assists. Cirino was second on the team with 49 ground balls and added 17 caused turnovers. Pawlowski finished third on the team with 47 ground balls and caused 21 turnovers. 

Megan Byers, Alyssa Hopkins, Kayla Parks Samantha Pawlowski and Casey Rappuhn were named as members of the all-academic team. In order to be nominated for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.

Senior Taylor Swartz was the Saints recipient of the WHAC Champions of Character award. 

SHU will continue their season at the 2018 NAIA women's Lacrosse National Invitational.
