Women's Basketball Takes 14-Game Win Streak on Road to Concordia, Aquinas

THIS WEEK IN SHU WOMEN'S HOOPS

SIENA HEIGHTS (14-2, 9-1) at CONCORDIA (11-4, 10-1), Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.

SIENA HEIGHTS at AQUINAS (7-9, 4-6), Saturday, 1 p.m.

 

HEAD COACH: Sue Syljebeck is in her 20th season as the head coach of the Saints women's basketball program. She is the program's winningest coach with a career record of 373-230. Syljebeck currently ranks 20th on the NAIA Women's basketball active coach wins list. She will be assisted this year by Deb Ray, Sara Chrenko, Niesha Lowe, Mo Rammuny, Dan Brooks and Tee Watters.
 
 
SHU WOMEN TIE SECOND-LONGEST STREAK: Siena Heights has won 14 straight contests -- its longest streak since 2019-20. Those two stretches are tied the second for longest win streaks in Saints women's basketball history. The record is a 23-game streak by the 1978-79 squad that finished 27-2 under SHU Hall of Fame coach Sr. Mary Alice Murnen.
 
Last week, the Saints earned a 71-44 win over WHAC opponent Lawrence Tech on Saturday. Kayla Hinton led SHU with 17 points, six steals and four assists while E'Anna Won finished with 15 points and eight rebounds.

Also for SHU, Olivia DeLong had 10 points, nine rebounds, three steals and two blocks. Jakarri Alven hauled down nine rebounds.

Earlier in the week, Siena Heights grabbed an 82-55 victory over Michigan-Dearborn.

Eva Alcock was the Saints' leading scorer with 16 points and six rebounds. Jillian Gelso added 15 points while Alven finished with 11 points and six rebounds.

Also for SHU (13-2, 8-1), Hinton grabbed eight rebounds and DeLong finished with two blocks and two steals.

Gelso: 8.5 ppg

Vice: team-high .444 three-point percentage (2nd in WHAC), 1.9 apg

DeLong: 7.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, team-high 2.1 bpg (T1st in WHAC), 1.4 spg

RECENT MEETINGS

Siena Heights vs. Concordia

The Cardinals won both meetings last year and have won 3 of 4 against SHU. CUAA defeated the Saints in Ann Arbor, 68-62, before taking a 76-73 overtime victory at the SHU Fieldhouse.

 

Siena Heights vs. Aquinas

The Saints have won their last 10 against Aquinas. That includes a 65-45 home victory earlier this season on Nov. 18. Vice buried seven 3-pointers en route to 23 points as the Siena Heights women's basketball team earned a 65-45 victory in WHAC action on Saturday.

Hinton added 11 points and nine rebounds while Won finished with 10 points and six steals. DeLong hauled down eight rebounds.
