DeLong's Career-High 23 Powers Women's Basketball Over Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. -- Olivia DeLong totaled a career-high of 23 points while making three blocks to lead the Siena Heights women's basketball team to a 76-49 victory over WHAC opponent Madonna on Saturday. With the win, the Saints stretched their winning streak to eight games.

Jillian Gelso added 12 points and six rebounds while Jakarri Alven put in 10 points. E'Anna Won contributed 12 rebounds and four assists.

The Saints (8-2, 5-1) took the lead with a 10-point run in the first quarter and never trailed after that. A 22-6 SHU advantage in the third helped the visitors put the contest away for good.

Gelso had a pair of 3-pointers in that early 10-0 stretch that helped the Saints take a 12-5 lead.

After taking a 43-32 edge into halftime, the Saints enjoyed a 14-1 run in the third. Alven had six points and DeLong notched four.

Siena Heights had another lengthy streak -- this time, nine points -- in the fourth quarter.

The Saints outrebounded Madonna, 40-22, and shot 26 of 47 from the field (.553) while holding Madonna to 17-for-59 (.315).

"This was a total team win on the defensive end," Saints coach Sue Syljebeck said. "We held Madonna's top scorer to nine points, led by E'Anna Won and our guards. Liv DeLong had a huge game for us in the middle."

SHU will play next when it travels to San Juan, P.R., for a pair of games against Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras and Warner on Dec. 18-19.
