Women's Hoops Comeback Falls Short at #RV Indiana-South Bend

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team fell to non-conference Indiana-South Bend, 75-67, in its season opener on Monday night.

Jakarri Alven was the Saints' leading scorer with 21 points and six rebounds. Madison Vice added 18 points and two steals.

Also for SHU (0-1), E'Anna Won made six assists while Olivia DeLong totaled five blocks and two steals.

Hampered by 29 turnovers, Siena Heights trailed the entire night after falling behind 7-0 to start the contest.

The Saints' largest deficit was 19 points before a second-half run cut the margin to 55-53 with 5:06 remaining in the fourth quarter. That was as close as SHU came.

Siena Heights had an 18-2 run to get to that point, getting eight points from Vice during the stretch. A pair of Vice free throws pulled the Saints within two before the Saints were outscored 20-14 the rest of the way.

SHU will return to action on Saturday with its home opener -- a 5 p.m. visit from WHAC opponent Indiana Tech.
