Banks Scores Record 47, Becomes SHU Basketball Scoring Champ as Women's Hoops Outlasts UNOH in 2OT

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Peyton Banks recorded a school-record 47 points and became SHU's all-time leading scorer in basketball for both men and women as the Siena Heights women's basketball team outlasted Northwestern Ohio for a 93-83 double-overtime victory in the WHAC Tournament quarterfinals on Thursday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Banks finished with 47 points and 19 rebounds for the Saints (24-5), who advanced to the WHAC semifinals. SHU will host Rochester on Saturday.

Sha'kyia Parker added 14 points and Kayla Hinton had 12 for Siena Heights. E'Anna Won grabbed 13 rebounds.

Banks, already the SHU women's career leader in points, eclipsed Brent Tucker, who had 2,122 points for the Saint men in 1990-94. Banks now has 2,145 career points.

Banks broke the single-game record of 41 by Sierra Calhoun, which was set in a 95-87 overtime victory on Feb. 28, 2015. That win came against Madonna in the WHAC semifinals.

The Saints trailed most of the night before making a comeback effort in the fourth quarter. SHU was down 35-29 at halftime and 46-41 after three periods.

Siena Heights finally pushed ahead in the fourth and held a 63-59 edge with 1:18 remaining, but UNOH did not go away quietly. The Racers went on a 6-0 run before a layup by Hinton tied the contest at 65-65 to force overtime.

SHU built a 73-67 advantage early in the first OT and UNOH had another answer. A 3-pointer by Sanz forged a 77-77 tie.

In the second OT, Banks single-handedly led the Saints on a 9-0 run. SHU built a 96-87 lead and held the Racers off the rest of the way. Banks had 29 points in the final 20 minutes -- the fourth quarter and two OT periods.

Jada Haines was UNOH's leading scorer with 27 points. Mar Marata Crespo hauled down 18 rebounds.
