Banks Breaks SHU Points Record, Women's Hoops Cruises to Win Over Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. – Peyton Banks broke the Siena Heights Women's Basketball career points record in helping the Saints cruise to a 79-27 win over Madonna.

Madonna scored the opening basket of the game right off the tip off, from there, the Saints cruised going on a 9-0 run and never looking back.  At the end of the first quarter, the lead was 19-9.  In the second quarter, Madonna didn't score until two free throws were made with 1:30 left in the half, a 24-2 advantage for the Saints in the second quarter made the halftime score 43-11.

The third and fourth quarter were much the same, with the 18-8 advantages in both quarters leading to the 79-27 win.  With the win, the Saints move to 8-2 overall, and 4-1 in the WHAC.

On the night, Banks led all scorers with 18 points.  Fourteen additional Saints scored points, with Sha'Kyia Parker adding nine and Brooke Rebman adding seven.  Jillian Gelso led the team with five rebounds, Lauren DeWolf led the team with four assists.  Parker added five steals and DeWolf added three steals.

In the second quarter, just a minute and a half into the quarter, Banks stepped to the free throw line and hit her two free throws to tie and break the career scoring record for Siena Heights Women's Basketball.  She broke the previous record of 1,812 points held by Laura Panozzo who played 2003-2007.

Coach Sue Syljebeck had this to say about the game, "It was a strong game top to bottom tonight and was good to see contributions from our entire roster tonight.  We had a chance to see some quality minutes from a lot of players tonight which is always a good thing."

Banks' name is all over the Saints career record page, she currently holds the record for total points (1,827), free throws made (493), free throw percentage (90.5%), and three point field goal percentage (41.8%).  She sits in second place in points per game (15.1), third place in rebound (874), fourth place in free throws attempted (545) and 5th place in field goals made.  Her ranks are 6th in field goals attempted (1,183), 7th in three point field goals made (150), and 9th place in field goal percentage (50%) and three point field goals attempted (359).

Syljebeck added, "Peyton has been a very good and consistent player for us since the start of her career.  To see her break a record that was set by an incredibly talented player like Laura Panozzo shows her drive and work ethic.  This record is one that she hasn't been focused on, she has just kept putting in her work to help our team win games."

UP NEXT – The Saints will return to action on Saturday, December 3rd when they host Rochester University for a 5 pm tip off.
