SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's basketball team cruised to a 73-58 win to improve to 6-3 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC). The Saints (14-5) bounce back from the loss suffered from No. 12 Indiana Tech on Wednesday night.
Sha'Kyia Parker improves her career-high point total by one point as she leads the way for SHU with 27 points. Madison Hamilton tallied 12 points and was one rebound short of a double-double, totaling two assists and two blocks. Peyton Banks led the way on the boards with 11 to go along with seven points in her return from injury.
The Blue Devils used a 6-0 run at the first quarter to pull ahead 6-1. The visitors responded with a 10-0 run to hop ahead 11-6 with 2:06 left in the opening quarter. Eva Alcock hit a layup to spark the run while Allye Minor and Parker made jumpers from three-point range to help SHU pull ahead. Four successful free throws ended the quarter and gave Siena Heights a 15-8 advantage.
The first double-digit lead for the Saints came inside a 9-0 run off a layup from Hamilton at the 8:07 mark of the second quarter. Lawrence Tech cut the SHU lead to six points, 29-23, but the Saints were able to hold the deficit at nine points as the teams entered the locker room with the score at 34-25.
Siena Heights extended the lead to 15 points with 6:44 left in the third quarter. The lead hovered around the low teens as the game moved into the fourth quarter, with Saints holding a 57-44 advantage.
The Blue Devils cut the score to eight points but failed to get closer as Siena pushed the lead to 16 points, 71-55, in the game's closing minutes and held onto the margin for the win.
