Tomczak, Russell Lead Women's Basketball to Victory Over Madonna in WHAC Action

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Madonna in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Saturday. The Saints won the contest, 79-70 for their fourth win in the last five games.

SHU opened scoring just 32 seconds into the ball game on a three by Clara Waidley and was able to maintain the lead through the finish. After the first quarter, the Saints led the Crusaders 15-11 and outscored Madonna in the second period as well to enter halftime with a 41-32 advantage.

Madonna fought throughout the second half but never came within five points of Siena Heights. SHU was able to walk away with the victory in their first contest of winter break.

Addyson Tomczak finished with a team high, 17 points for Siena Heights, while Demi Russell and Clara Waidley added 15 and 12 points respectively. Sharmaine Wills and Taylar McNeal both contributed eight rebounds and Azalea Miller and Waidley each dished out four assists.

From the field, the Saints went 30-54 (55.6%), 6-11 (54.5%) from three and 13-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line. Madonna finished the contest 25-54 (46.3%) from the floor, 6-20 (30%) from behind the arc and 14-25 (56%) from the charity stripe.

Next up, the Saints will host Defiance in a non-conference contest on Monday, Dec. 18. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
