Watson Finishes With 35 to Lift Saints to Victory Over Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Cornerstone in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday, and ran away with a 73-50 victory. The Saints (17-6, 10-5 WHAC) have now won their last six straight.

SHU jumped out to a quick start scoring 20 points in the first period and holding the Golden Eagles to only eight. By halftime, the Saints were walking to the locker room with a 34-18 advantage.

In the third period, although Cornerstone (11-12, 8-7 WHAC) was able to outscore the Saints, Siena Heights went into the final frame up 14 points. In the fourth quarter, SHU exploded for another 22 points and put the Golden Eagles away.

April Watson led the Saints with a career high, 35 points and 13 rebounds, completing her twelfth double-double on the season. Clara Waidley added 12 points, while Sharmaine Wills pulled down 12 boards. Azalea Miller finished with a game high, five assists.

Cornerstone was led by Jesse Sheridan with 26 points. Ellery Mast grabbed a team high, seven rebounds.

On the night, Siena Heights shot 45% from the field, 37.5% (6-16) from three and 92.9% (13-14) from the charity stripe. Cornerstone shot 31.7% from the floor, just 22.2% (4-18) from behind the arc and 50% (8-16) from the free throw line.

The Saints will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28, when they travel to take on Lawrence Tech in WHAC action.
