Wills, Watson Lift Saints to Victory Over Concordia

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team traveled to take on Concordia in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday. The Saints came away with the victory with a score of 60-55.

Throughout the first period, the scores were traded until the Saints (15-6, 8-5 WHAC) were able to open up a five point lead at the end of the first. In the second, SHU continued to stretch the margin to 11 by halftime. 

In the third quarter, the Saints scoring slowed and the Cardinals were able to close the gap to just four points going into the final frame. With 8:24 remaining in the game, CUAA tied the score at 46. Siena Heights scored the next bucket and held on from there. 

Sharmaine Wills led the Saints with a double-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds and five steals. April Watson also finished with 14 points and added seven rebounds. 

Concordia (13-7, 7-7 WHAC) was led by Brianna Rowe with 15 points and five rebounds. Kari Borowiak contributed 12 points and four rebounds.

In the contest, Siena Heights shot 17-39 (43.6%) from the field while CUAA finished with a field goal percentage of 29.7%. SHU shot only eight threes in the ball game, knocking down two for 25% from behind the arc. The Cardinals went 3-26 (11.5%) from behind the long line. 

The Saints will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 21, when they host UM-Dearborn in WHAC action. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
