Women's Basketball Defeats UM-Dearborn in Overtime Battle

DEARBORN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team traveled to take on UM-Dearborn in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Saturday. The Saints were able to bring home the victory in overtime with a final score of 67-59.

Scoring was even throughout the first period with the Saints (5-5, 1-4 WHAC) holding on to a one point advantage going into the second. After two, SHU had stretched their lead to 11, with a score of 33-22 going into halftime. 

In the third period, the Wolverines (3-10, 0-5 WHAC) were able to gain a lot of ground and closed the gap to one point at the end of the third. With 3:34 left in regulation, Siena Heights gained an eight point advantage on a lay-up made by Ashley Perry, but UMD was not finished. UM-Dearborn went on a 6-0 run and tied the score at 55 with 21 seconds remaining in the fourth period.

To begin overtime, SHU went on a 9-0 run and never looked back. 

The Saints were led by Sharmaine Wills and April Watson who both recorded double-doubles of 14 points and 15 rebounds, and 14 points and ten rebounds respectively. Siena Heights was also helped by Azalea Miller with 11 points and six assists and Jaaliyah Arrington with ten points and eight rebounds.

Kendall Rose led the Wolverines with 17 points and nine rebounds while Emily Heinrich added 13 points and nine rebounds.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, Dec. 7, when they host Northwestern Ohio in a WHAC contest. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
