Four Saints Hit Double-Digits in Women's Hoops Loss to Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. -- Four Saints scored in double-digits for the Siena Heights women's basketball team in 81-76 loss to Madonna in the Wolverive-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament quarterfinals, on Thursday.

The hosting Crusaders came out strong, leading by seven points with 3:05 remaining in the first quarter. The Saints went on a 7-0 run, a jumper by Jaaliyah Arrington tying the game. Lindsey Hernden drained the buzzer-beater to gain the lead 22-19, ending the first quarter.

Madonna (17-10) held their biggest lead of the night, 17 points, with 9:43 left on the game clock. Ra'shawn Calvert sank a free throw to get the Saints within three points of MU, 78-75, with only 00:34 remaining in the game. After a series of alternating free throws, the Crusaders were able to keep the lead, ending the Saints 25-15 fourth quarter run.

Calvert lead the Saints (19-12) with 17 points and four assists while Arrington also had four assists and 13 points. Lauren Wirth added 14 points and April Watson finished with a double-double, 10 points and 12 rebounds.

Overall, Siena Heights finished 29 of 70 shots for 41.4 percent while Madonna made 25-54 shots for 46.3 percent. Behind the arc, SHU made 7 of 20 (35.0 percent) and MU finished 9 of 20 for 45.0 percent. The main difference was in free throws: the Saints made 11 of 20 (55.0 percent) while the Crusaders finished 22-35 (62.9 percent).

Siena Heights out-rebounded the Crusaders 46-31. The Saints had 20 turnovers to Madonna's 14.

Harnden ended with 27 points for Madonna while Becca Sabol finished with a double-double, 18 points and 12 rebounds.
