Women's Basketball Unable to Contain Davenport

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team fell to No. 8 Davenport 79-63 in a WHAC contest on Wednesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

The Panthers started strong, leading only by six points going in the second quarter 19-13.

The Saints (12-9, 6-7) took the lead with a layup from Azalea Miller with 5:54 left in the half. SHU was able to hold off DU going into halftime, leading 32-30.

Davenport started the second half strong. Alex Law made a three-pointer coming out of the half to give the Panthers the lead back. SHU tied it up at 41-all. Davenport regained the lead and held it the rest of the game.

April Watson led the Saints with 20 points and eight rebounds. Ra'Shawn Calvert and Jaaliyah Arrington both added 12 points a piece.

For Davenport (16-4, 12-1), Alex Law put-up 16 points. Kendra Cook finished the night with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds.

As a team, Siena Heights shot 22-53 (41.5 percent) from the floor, 4-11 (36.4 percent) from three-point land and 15-22 (68.2 percent from the line. The visiting Panthers shot 25-55 (45.5 percent) from the field, 5-19 (26.3 percent) from behind the arch and 24-41 (58.5 percent) from the charity stripe.

Siena Heights will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 23, for a WHAC game at Concordia. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
