Chezem Helps Lift Women's Basketball to Victory

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Avery Chezem led the Siena Heights women's basketball team with 14 points to help bring the Saints to a 53-49 conference victory over Lourdes (Ohio), on Saturday.

The visiting Gray Wolves started out strong, leaving the first quarter with a seven-point lead over the Saints.

With the help of Jaaliyah Arrington and Chezem, the Saints (11-6, 5-5) began to close the gap with the Gray Wolves. Arrington put-up seven points while Chezem scored five points, including a three-point buzzer-beater to grab the lead at halftime, 28-27.

Siena Heights reached their biggest lead of the night with a seven-point advantage over Lourdes, five minutes remaining in the third period. The Gray Wolves fought back, Sara Pribonic made three fre throws to put LU with-in one point of the Saints 43-42 lead at the end of the third quarter.

Lourdes (4-13, 1-8) was back on top, 44-43, with nine minutes left. Another Chezem three-pointer sealed the deal for the Saints, taking the lead for the remainder of the game.

For the Saints, Arrington finished with 13 points, three assists and five rebounds. April Watson finished with a double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds while Lauren Wirth also grabbed 10 boards.

The Gray Wolves' leading scorer was Niki Meyer with 12 points. Lindsey Motycka also finished in double digits for LU, scoring 10 points. Jesse Fidler led with 17 rebounds.

Overall, the Saints shot 19-59 (32. percent) from the field while Lourdes shot 16-51 (31.4 percent).

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Aquinas for a 6 p.m. WHAC contest.
