Women's Hoops Suffers Loss to Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team fell to Madonna in a 63-56 conference decision, on Wednesday.

The Crusaders powered past the Saints in the second half, scoring 42 of their 63 points.

Siena Heights led 40-21 going into halftime.The Saints were 13-30 (43.3 percent) and the Crusaders were 4-29 (13.8 percent) in the first half. The second half was another story.

Madonna held the Saints to only four points in the third quarter while they put-up 18 points, cutting the Saints lead to five points.

A jumper by Crusaders' Becca Sabol tied it up at 46-46 with 7:24 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Saints couldn't hold on as the Crusaders finished the fourth quarter with 24 points. SHU shot 5-26 (9.2 percent) in the second half while MU shot 13-28 (46.4 percent) from the field.

Azalea Miller led the Saints with 12 points while April Watson led with 12 rebounds, also adding nine points. Ra'Shawn Clavert tacked on seven points and five assists.

Three Crusaders scored in double-digits. Lindsey Hernden and Becca Sabol both had 17 points while Justice Dean finished with 10 points.

Overall, the Saints shot 18-56 (32.1 percent) from the field and 12-18 (66.7 percent) from the line. Madonna shot 17-57 (29.8 percent) from the field and 23-27 (85.2 percent) from the charity stripe.

The Saints will be back in action, on Saturday, when they host conference opponent Lourdes (Ohio) at 5:30 p.m.
