Second Half Surge Propels Saints Past Racers

Lima, OH - Siena Heights relied on their rebounding and scoring in the paint to come from behind and beat the University of Northwestern Ohio 60-49.

After a slim one point lead at the end of the first quarter the Saints still found themselves trailing 28-26 at the half.  The third quarter is where the Saints made their move. Siena Heights (10-5, 4-4 WHAC) outscored Northwestern Ohio (8-8, 5-3 WHAC) 10-0 in the paint and 19-11 in the third quarter alone.  The close proximity to the hoop helped the Saints shoot 40.7% from the field for the second half and win the game by double digits.

For the game, the Saints outscored the Racers 22-14 in the paint and 16-6 in second chance points.  Both the points in the paint and second chance points are a direct reflection of the prominence on the glass.  They won the rebound battle 46-29 and amassed 17 offensive rebounds for the game.

April Watson led the Saints with a double-double.  Watson pulled down 14 rebounds and scored 11 points.  Ra'Shawn Calvert led the Saints with 17 points, while Jaaliyah Arrington added 13 herself.  Lauren Wirth grabbed 13 rebounds in the victory.  Wirth and Watson combined to pull down 12 of the Saints 17 offensive rebounds.

Stacia Allen led the Racers with 14 points, while Luisa Smith added a dozen points.

Siena Heights will now return home for two games in a row.  On Wednesday, January 6th, they host Madonna University at 7:30 pm and then host Lourdes University on the 9th at 5:30 pm.
