Tournament MVP Arrington Helps Women's Hoops to Victory

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Jaaliyah Arrington was given the Tournament Most Valuable Player Award after helping the Saints to a 59-50 victory over non-conference opponent Roosevelt (Ill.), on Tuesday, in the Roosevelt Holiday Hoops Classic championship game.

The game was evenly matched, Siena Heights shooting 11-28 (39.3 percent) in the first half while the Lakers shot 11-30 (36.7 percent). The Saints led 28-27 at halftime.

Roosevelt (9-6, 3-4) took charge in the third quarter going on a 6-2 run. The Saints responded with an 11-2 run of their own with four minutes remaining in the third quarter. Azalea Miller finished a three-pointer that put SHU in lead lead for good, 1:34 left in the third quarter.

Overall, Siena Heights finished 19-53 (35.8 percent) from the field, 4-19 (21.1 percent) from three-point land and 17-24 (70.8 percent) from the line. The Lakers shot 20-62 (32.3 percent) on the floor, 3-15 (20.0 percent) behind the arch and 7-14 (50.0 percent) in free throws.

Arrington led the Saints with 14 points and three assists. April Waston and Miller both finished with 12 points a piece. Watson added seven boards and one block.

Arrington was named Tournament MVP for her performance in the championship game and the preliminary game, where she finished with 15 points.

Watson and Miller were both named to the All-Tournament Team.

The Saints (8-5, 3-4) will be back in action next Wednesday, Dec. 30, hosting non-conference opponent Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.) for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.
