CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team defeated Governors State (Ill.), 54-52, in the first game of the non-conference Roosevelt Holiday Hoops Tournament.
The Saints finished the first half leading against the Jaguars, 28-18. The Jaguars fought back, taking the lead, 42-41, with 7:45 left in the game. A three-pointer by Ra'Shawn Calvert was the deciding factor for the Saints, with 00:47 left on the clock.
April Watson led the Saints with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Jaaliyah Arrington also finished with 15 points and one steal.
For the Jaguars (0-16), Achuynnua Robinson finished with 20 points,
Overall, the Saints shot 18-56 (32.1 percent) from the field, 5-21 (23.8 percent) behind the three-point arch, and 13-27 (48.1) from the free throw line. Governors State finished 15-51 (29.4 percent), 4-16 (25.0 percent) in three-point land, and 18-28 (64.3 percent) from the charity stripe.
SHU (7-5, 3-4) will be back in action on Tuesday in the Campionship Game of the Roosevelt Holiday Hoops Tournament against Roosevelt (Ill.) at 7:30 p.m. CST/8:30 p.m. EST.
