First-Half Run Sparks #18 Women's Hoops Past CUAA

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Najee Brazzle and Sierra Calhoun scored 11 points each, helping the 18th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team cruise past Concordia for an 87-52 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory on Saturday.

Jessie Arnold and Alexxis Knannlein added 10 points each for the Saints (16-5, 11-3), who clinched a spot in the WHAC Tournament. Mackenzie Tomasik and Calhoun hauled down 10 and seven rebounds, respectively.

The visiting Saints dominated CUAA in the first half; credit a 20-point run for helping along the way. The Saints went 9 of 12 from the field while Concordia was 0 of 9 and scoreless for six minutes and 16 seconds as SHU took a 34-11 lead.

During the opening period, the Saints finished 19 of 31 from the field (61.3 percent) while CUAA went 6 of 30 (20.0 percent). Siena Heights held a 48-18 halftime advantage and never looked back. For the game, SHU had a 46-29 rebounding edge.

Colleen Szakacs was the leading scorer for Concordia (3-18, 2-13) with 15 points. Kari Borowiak chipped in with 11.

The Saints will return to action on Monday with an 8 p.m. non-conference contest against cross-town rival Adrian.
