Warfield Eclipses 1,000-Point Mark in #16 Women's Hoops Win over Rochester

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Morgan Warfield scored 17 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point career mark as the 16th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team defeated Rochester, 66-42, in a SHU Thanksgiving Tournament semifinal on Friday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Sierra Calhoun added 16 points and nine rebounds while Najee Brazzle chipped in with nine points and four steals. Mackenzie Tomasik and Lauren Wirth added seven rebounds apiece for the Saints (6-0).

Warfield scored all 17 of her points during the second half. Typically a long-distance shooter, she went 0 of 5 from three-point land in the first before making 5 of 6 during the second.

Siena Heights twice trailed by five in the first half before taking a 21-16 halftime lead. Both teams struggled from the field during the first 20 minutes, combining to make 15 of 56 (26.8 percent), including 0 of 18 from three-point territory.

In the second half, the Saints exploded for a 17-point run, turning a slim 26-24 advantage into a wide 43-24 margin. Warfield had 12 points during the charge; her seventh, eighth and ninth points of that run were 999, 1,000, and 1,001 of her collegiate career.

From that point, SHU's smallest lead was 15 and its largest lead was 25.

Leeza Donald and Tiffany Misch were Rochester's leading scorers, finishing with 10 points apiece. Sam Charney added four assists and Jackie Highstreet contributed four steals.

Warfield is now eighth all-time in SHU women's history with 1,009 career points while teammate Calhoun is sixth with 1,195.

The Saints will meet NAIA Division I opponent Central Methodist (Mo.) in Saturday's 4 p.m. final.

The CMU Eagles, ranked 25th in NAIA D-I, defeated Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.), 87-40, in Friday's other semifinal.

Taylor McDowell had 19 points while Taylor Cornelison finished with a double-double worth 16 points and 12 rebounds for Central Methodist. Also, Morgan Vetter scored 12 points, Chelsea Pannier grabbed 11 rebounds, and Kyra Williams dished seven assists.

Latoi Merriweather had 15 points and eight rebounds for CCSJ. Giacanna Ezell also hauled down eight rebounds.

Calumet and Rochester will play in Saturday's 2 p.m. consolation game.
