Softball Splits at Rochester Christian

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team split a WHAC doubleheader with Rochester Christian, losing the first game 2-1 before winning the second 13-5.

The Saints (13-21, 3-11) will play again on Sunday with a doubleheader at Michigan-Dearborn at 1 p.m.

 

Game one: Rochester Christian 2, Siena Heights 1

Julia Hogston had two hits and Ellie Thelen doubled for the Saints.

Shyann Truax pitched all six innings without allowing an earned run. She gave up five hits and totaled one strikeout and one walk.

Thelen scored SHU's only run in the third inning via error before RCU plated two unearned runs in its half of the third.

 

Game two: Siena Heights 13, Rochester Christian 5

Truax batted 4-for-4 with a homer, three RBI and two runs as the Saints scored 13 unanswered runs after falling behind 5-0 in the first.

Truax was also the winning pitcher after throwing 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. Riley Hoover also pitched in relief, going 1 2/3 scoreless frames.

Avery Schellenberger finished with three hits. Thelen, Courtnee Chappetta (homer) and Ally Frank had two-hit games.

Hogston scored twice and Kat Moreau tripled and drove in two runs.

Siena Heights pushed across seven runs in the third inning. Truax and Moreau had two-run singles while Frank and Schellenberger provided RBI singles.

Frank added an RBI groundout in the fourth, Chappetta drilled a two-run round-tripper in the fifth and Truax homered during the Saints' three-run sixth.
