Softball Salvages Split With IUSB

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Siena Heights softball team salvaged a non-conference split at Indiana-South Bend on Thursday. The Saints dropped game one, 15-0, before rebounding for a 4-3 win in game two.

The Saints (12-20) will return to play on Saturday with a 1 p.m. WHAC doubleheader at Rochester.

 

Game one: IUSB 15, Siena Heights 0 (5 innings)

Sydnee Hazlett had two hits for the Saints, who had five as a team.

South Bend took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and had two big innings: seven runs in the second and six in the fourth.

 

Game two: Siena Heights 4, IUSB 3

Courtnee Chappetta delivered a two-out RBI single in the seventh inning and then winning pitcher Shyann Truax worked a 1-2-3 seventh as the Saints ended the day on a high note.

Chappetta and Truax had two hits apiece for SHU. Ally Frank hit a double.

Truax allowed three runs on eight hits while recording five strikeouts and five walks in the circle.

SHU took a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a two-run single by Julia Hogston.

IUSB plated the next three runs, getting one in the second and two in the third.

An RBI single by Lee Clinton tied the contest at 3-all in the fourth.

During the seventh, Clinton singled and then raced to third on a sac bunt by Hogston. Two batters later, Chappetta put SHU ahead for good.
