Softball Drops Two Close Games at Cornerstone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team lost a pair of WHAC games at Cornerstone, 4-3 and 4-1, on Monday.

The Saints (11-19, 2-10) will play next on Thursday when they visits non-conference opponent Indiana-South Bend.

Game one: Cornerstone 4, Siena Heights 3

The Saints came back from a 3-0 deficit on a three-run homer by Courtnee Chappetta, but eventually lost in walkoff fashion in the seventh.

SHU trailed 3-0 when Chappetta plated herself, Sydnee Hazlett (reached on error) and Kat Moreau (single) in the fifth.

Cornerstone scored the winning run with two outs in the seventh on a bases-loaded single.

Moreau finished with two hits, including a double.

Shyann Truax pitched all 6 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits while totaling four strikeouts and two walks.

Game two: Cornerstone 4, Siena Heights 1

Faith Breinager led the Siena Heights offense with two hits. Her RBI single plated Chappetta for the Saints' only run in the third.

Cornerstone scored three times in the second inning and pushed its lead back to three in the bottom half of the third.

Jordan Green pitched the first three frames, giving up three earned runs on six hits. Truax worked the final three scoreless innings.
