Softball Sweeps Doubleheader with Grace Christian

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Grace Christian, taking scores of 14-0 and 3-2 on Tuesday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field.

The Saints (10-12) have a quick turnaround with a WHAC doubleheader on Wednesday against Lourdes, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

 

Game one: Siena Heights 14, Grace Christian 0 (5 innings)

Kat Moreau and Courtnee Chappetta had two-hit games. Moreau was 2-for-2 with a double, three runs and an RBI. Chappetta finished 2-for-3 with a double, a run and three RBI.

Ellie Thelen tripled and scored twice. Shyann Truax scored two runs, drove in two runs and doubled. Sydnee Hazlett ripped a three-run homer. Mack Lane added a triple and Lauren Dioszegi doubled.

In the circle, Truax tossed a 3-hit shutout. She struck out five batters.

The Saints scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back. Thelen had an RBI triple, Moreau and Truax smacked RBI doubles, and Avery Schellenberger hit an RBI single.

During SHU's 5-run second, Chappetta had an RBI double and Hazlett crunched her inside-the-park, 3-run dinger to the fence in center field.

Siena Heights scored three times in the third: two on a single by Chappetta and one on a walk by Truax.

In the fourth, Faith Breinager had a sacrifice fly and Kelsey Speer contributed an RBI single.

 

Game two: Siena Heights 3, Grace Christian 2

The Saints managed only two hits, but found a way to scratch their way to the win. Thelen had the lone extra-base hit -- a double.

Riley Hoover was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on five hits in six innings. She recorded five strikeouts and two walks.

Truax pitched the seventh to earn the save.

The Saints plated their first two runs on back-to-back sac flies by Breinager and Hoover.

After Grace Christian pulled even at 2-2 in the third, SHU retook the lead for good on an RBI groundout by Moreau.
