Softball Drops Two Including Extra Inning Affair

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests to Saint Francis (Ill.) on Saturday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field. SHU lost by scores of 3-2 and 12-3.

The Saints will return to play on Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. doubleheader against Grace Christian. Siena Heights' previously-scheduled doubleheader for Sunday against Olivet is postponed.

Game one: Saint Francis (Ill.) 3, Siena Heights 2 (8 innings)
Ellie Thelen pounded the ball in SHU's home opener, batting 3-for-4 with two doubles and a triple. She also scored a run and drove in one.

Shyann Truax went all eight innings in the circle, allowing three runs on eight hits. She recorded three strikeouts and two walks.

An RBI double by Thelen spotted the Saints a 1-0 lead before Saint Francis answered with single runs in the third and sixth.

Eva Curtis hit an RBI single to tie the game at 2-2 in the sixth.

The visiting Fighting Saints plated their winning run during the eighth.

Game two: Saint Francis (Ill.) 12, Siena Heights 3 (5 innings)
The host Saints fell behind 5-0 in the first inning and faced an eight-run deficit before getting on the board in the fourth.

Erin Groom had an RBI single and Julia Hogston drew a bases-loaded walk in that fourth inning.

SHU's only other run came via RBI single by Ally Frank in the fifth.

Hogton added a double to the offensive effort.
