Softball Drops Two To End Spring Trip at 7-5

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Siena Heights softball team had a tough final day at the SpaceCoast Games, suffering a 6-0 loss to Keiser and a 6-2 loss to Florida National on Saturday.

The Saints (7-5) will play next when they host Saint Francis (Ill.) for a home-opening doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 16.

Game one: Keiser 6, Siena Heights 0
Julia Hogston tripled and Shyann Truax doubled for the SHU offense. Faith Breinager and Ellie Thelen also had hits.

Truax was the losing pitcher in the circle, working the first 3 2/3 innings. Riley Hoover pitched the final 2 1/3 without allowing an earned run.

Keiser scored twice in the second and tacked on three insurance runs in the third and one in the fifth.

Game two: Florida National 6, Siena Heights 2
Courtnee Chappetta (triple) and Lee Clinton (stolen base) had two-hit games for the Saints. Thelen ripped a double.

The Saints trailed 1-0 before an RBI single by Avery Schellenberger evened the contest at 1-all.

Florida National plated three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to grab a 6-1 advantage. SHU's final run scored on an RBI single by Breinager in the sixth.

Jordan Green started for the Saints, going the first 5 2/3 innings, before Hoover provided 1 1/3 of scoreless relief.
