Softball Splits a Pair on Second-To-Last Day in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Siena Heights softball team went 1-1 on Friday at the SpaceCoast Games, taking a 4-2 victory over Ave Maria before losing to Grace, 2-1.

The Saints (7-3) will finish play in Florida on Saturday with games versus Keiser and Florida National.

Game one: Siena Heights 4, Ave Maria 2
Courtnee Chappetta doubled twice and Lee Clinton also had a two-hit game as SHU came back from an early 2-0 deficit.

Winning pitcher Shyann Truax allowed two runs on six hits while going the distance. She had two strikeouts and zero walks.

The Saints trailed most of the game, falling behind two in the second inning before taking the lead with a three-run sixth. Truax squeezed a run in from third via bunt and Emma Marshall plated the tying run on an RBI fielder's choice.

An RBI single by Avery Schellenberger gave the Saints a 3-2 lead. Clinton tacked on another score with an RBI single in the seventh.

Game two: Grace 2, Siena Heights 1
Jordan Green was the tough-luck losing pitcher, giving up two runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings. She recorded one strikeout and one walk.

Clinton scored SHU's only run, stealing second base and then coming around on an error to tie the game at 1-all for SHU in the fifth.

Grace won the contest on a walk-off double in the seventh.

SHU's four hits were collected by Schellenberger, Kat Moreau, Ellie Thelen and Emma Fair.
