Softball Splits First Two at SpaceCoast Games

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- THe Siena Heights softball team opened its SpaceCoast Games week with a split on Sunday. The Saints lost to Trinity Christian, 4-3, before taking a 17-3 victory against Fisher (Mass.).

The Saints will play again Monday against Bethel (Ind.) and Dakota Wesleyan.

 

Trinity Christian 4, Siena Heights 3

Ellie Thelen homered and Shyann Truax doubled for the Saints.

Truax went the distance in the circle, getting charged for three earned runs on eight hits. She had three strikeouts and three walks.

SHU took advantage of Trinity Christian errors to plate its first two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

The Trolls scored the next three runs to go up 4-2.

Thelen's homer was a one-out, inside-the-parker. It was SHU's final hit of the game.

 

Siena Heights 17, Fisher 2 (5 inn.)

Thelen, Faith Breinager, Sydnee Hazlett and Emma Marshall had two-hit games as Siena Heights erupted for 15 runs through the first two innings.

Breinager, Thelen, Hazlett, Marshall, Courtnee Chappetta, Lauren Dioszegi and Julia Hogston scored two runs apiece.

The Saints scored seven runs on only two hits in the first. Hazlett had an RBI single and Marshall rolled an RBI groundout. Five runs crossed via wild pitch.

During SHU's eight-run second, Emma Fair had a two-run sacrifice fly. Dioszegi, Marshall, Thelen and Hazlett added RBI singles. Breinager had a single and scored via error on the play.

The Saints last two runs came in on a wild pitch in the third and a bunt single by Lee Clinton in the fifth.

Winning pitcher Jordan Green gave up two runs on six hits while striking out nine. She did not walk a hitter.
