Softball Ends Season With Comeback Win in Split with IUSB

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team finished its season with a non-conference split against Indiana-South Bend on Saturday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field. The Saints dropped game one, 5-4, before taking game two, 2-1.

Game one: IUSB 5, SHU 4

The Saints scored four runs over the final two innings, but their comeback ultimately fell short.

Eva Curtis led the Siena Heights offense with two hits.

With SHU trailing 3-0, an RBI single by Alexis Hirst pulled the Saints within two in the sixth.

IUSB stretched its advantage out to 5-1 in the top half of the seventh before Siena Heights came back with three in the bottom half.

Courtnee Chappetta, Curtis and Shyann Truax had RBI singles before the final out was recorded.

Aila Johnson pitched all seven innings for the Saints, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. She had one strikeout and three walks.

Game two: SHU 2, IUSB 1

The Saints rallied for two runs in the sixth inning -- the go-ahead run coming in on a Hirst double -- for a comeback win in their season finale.

Sam Spicer and Kat Moreau had two hits apiece for the SHU offense.

Siena Heights trailed 1-0 after the visiting Titans scored in the first inning.

The Saints finally evened the score on a sacrifice fly by Truax. That set the stage for Hirst's game-winning hit.

Truax was the winning pitcher, giving up one run on four hits. She totaled four strikeouts and four walks.
