Softball Sweeps Rochester; Now Winners in 6 of 7

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team swept a WHAC doubleheader against Rochester on Saturday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field, taking victories of 5-0 and 8-4.

SHU (10-23, 6-8), a winner in 6 of its last 7 games, is scheduled to return to play with a non-conference doubleheader at Point Park on Tuesday, starting at 3:30 p.m.

 

Game one: SHU 5, Rochester 0

Aila Johnson pitched for her third straight victory -- this time tossing her first collegiate shutout. Johnson allowed only three hits while recording seven strikeouts and zero walks.

Faith Breinager had two hits and one run while Kat Moreau scored two runs for the Saints.

SHU took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, starting with a two-run single by Eva Curtis. Ellie Thelen added an RBI single.

Courtnee Chappetta had an RBI triple in the fourth and Ally Frank hit an RBI single in the fifth.

 

Game two: SHU 8, Rochester 4

Breinager had another two-hit game, including a double. She scored a run and drove in two others.

Lyndsey Pena added a two-hit game with two runs scored and Frank doubled and drove in two runs.

Shyann Truax went the distance in the circle, allowing only two earned runs on 10 hits. She had seven strikeouts and one walk.

The Saints jumped in front with a six-run first inning, taking a 6-1 advantage, and led the rest of the way. Chappetta and Pena had RBI singles and Frank smacked a sacrifice fly before a Breinager single plated two runs.

Frank added an RBI double in the third and Sydney Hazlett drove an RBI single in the sixth.
