Johnson Wins Second Straight Start as Softball Splits with Lourdes

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team played to a split with Lourdes on Thursday at Christensen Memorial Softball Field. The Saints won game one, 6-5, before falling in game two, 12-3.

The Saints (8-23, 4-8) will return to action on Saturday with a 1 p.m. WHAC doubleheader against Rochester.

 

Game one: SHU 6, Lourdes 5

Winning pitcher Aila Johnson went the distance and earned her second win in as many starts. She allowed five runs -- only two earned -- on seven hits while recording five strikeouts and one walk.

Maddie Herrera and Ellie Thelen had two hits apiece for the SHU offense. Herrera doubled and had three RBI. Faith Breinager drove in two runs.

The Saints took 2-1 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Breinager and an RBI single by Herrera.

After the visiting Gray Wolves tied the contest at 2-2, SHU took the lead for good with a four-run fourth.

Breinager hit an RBI single, Herrera ripped a two-run double and Kat Moreau smacked an RBI single.

Lourdes came back with one run in the fifth and two in the seventh before Johnson finished the job.

 

Game two: Lourdes 12, SHU 3 (5 inn.)

The Saints took a 3-2 lead after falling behind 2-0 in the fourth. Herrera had a two-run single during SHU's three-run fourth.

Lourdes answered with 10 runs in the fifth. None of LU's 12 runs were earned.
