Softball Earns First Doubleheader Sweep of 2023 at LTU

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team earned its first WHAC doubleheader sweep of the season at Lawrence Tech on Tuesday. The Saints earned victories of 4-3 and 8-4.

SHU will return to action on Thursday when Lourdes visits for a 3:30 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.

 

Game one: SHU 4, Lawrence Tech 3

Aila Johnson pitched for her first collegiate win and Riley Hoover earned the save as the Saints held off a late LTU rally.

Johnson was credited with six innings, giving up five hits. Among the three runs allowed, only one was earned. Hoover inherited one runner in the seventh before recording the final three outs.

The Saints took a 4-0 lead in the second inning as Faith Breinager hit a two-run double and Maddie Herrera smacked a two-run single.

The Blue Devils scored single runs in the fourth, sixth and seventh inning.

 

Game two: SHU 8, Lawrence Tech 4

Shyann Truax homered and earned the pitching win. She allowed four runs on six hits while totaling three strikeouts and one walk. Kat Moreau and Eva Curtis had doubles for the Saints.

SHU took the lead with three runs in the second inning and held the rest of the way. Breinager had an RBI single and Moreau ripped an RBI double in the second.

Siena Heights tacked on three runs in the third, increasing the advantage to 6-1. Truax's homer in the fourth pushed the lead to 8-1. LTU scored three times in the fourth for the game's final runs.
