Softball Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader against Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of WHAC contests to Aquinas on Sunday, falling 3-1 and 10-0, at Christensen Memorial Softball Field.

The Saints (3-18, 0-4) will play next on Wednesday when they host Madonna for a 3:30 p.m. WHAC doubleheader.

 

Game one: Aquinas 3, SHU 1

Courtnee Chappetta batted 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Saints and Maddie Herrera doubled.

Aila Johnson went the distance in the pitchers' circle. She was tacked for only one earned run. She gave up six hits while finishing with one strikeout and three walks.

Siena Heights fell behind 2-0 in the first inning and trailed by that score until pushing a run across in the sixth. Chappetta had an RBI single.

Aquinas (21-9, 4-0) benefited from a SHU error in the seventh to push its lead up to 3-1.

 

Game two: Aquinas 10, SHU 0 (5 inn.)

Faith Breinager had two hits with Eva Curtis and Ellie Thelen adding SHU's other two hits. Shyann Truax was the losing pitcher.

Aquinas took a 3-0 lead in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run homer by Izzy Dawson. The visiting Saints then added one run in the fourth before erupting for six runs in the fifth.
