Softball Falls in Final Two Tucson Games

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights softball team finished its spring trip with losses to Concordia (Neb.) and Saint Francis (Ill.) on Friday. Final scores were 2-1 and 6-0.

The Saints (3-12) will return to action on Saturday, March 18, with a pair of games at Trinity Christian (Ill.). The following day, SHU will visit Cardinal Stritch (Wis.).

 

Game one: Concordia (Neb.) 2, SHU 1

Ellie Thelen batted 3-for-3 with a run while Courtnee Chappetta and Shyann Truax contributed two-hit games for Siena Heights.

Truax was the losing pitcher, allowing two runs on five hits. She totaled five strikeouts and five walks.

Concordia won the game in walkoff fashion. The game entered the seventh tied at 1-1. A leadoff triple by Grace Boganowski set up a game-ending single by USF's Aubrey Bruning.

After allowing a run in the Concordia second, the Saints tied the game in the fifth on an RBI single by Chappetta.

 

Game two: Saint Francis (Ill.) 6, SHU 0

Pitcher Aila Johnson worked a strong game in the circle, efforting 5 1/3 innings. She was tacked for four earned runs on 10 hits. Truax finished out the final two outs on a double-play groundout turned by third-baseman Ally Frank.

Saint Francis built a 3-0 lead through five innings before stretching its advantage with a three-run sixth.

The Siena Heights offense had five hits -- all singles.

Fighting Saints pitcher Hannah Vachon totaled three strikeouts and one walk.
