Softball Suffers Losses to Jamestown, York

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The Siena Heights softball team had a tough day on the diamond Thursday with a pair of losses at the Tucson Invitational Games. The Saints fell to Jamestown (N.D.), 11-3, and York (Neb.), 10-3.

SHU will return to action on Friday with its final two games in the desert against Concordia (Neb.) and Saint Francis (Ill.).

 

Game one: Jamestown 11, SHU 3

Siena Heights jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning, but did not score after that as Jamestown rattled off 11 straight runs.

Ellie Thelen put SHU on the board with an RBI single and Faith Breinager followed with a two-run double.

Jamestown tied the game with three runs in the second. Holding a 5-3 lead, the Jimmies widened the margin with a six-run sixth.

 

Game two: York 10, SHU 3

Courtnee Chappetta and Kat Moreau had RBI singles and Ally Frank drew a bases-loaded walk. Breinager scored two runs.

The Saints scored solo runs in the first, third and fourth innings. Chappetta delivered in the first and Frank walked in the third.

Then, the Saints were haunted by a big inning as York plated five runs in the fourth, taking an 8-2 lead.

Moreau's run-scoring hit pulled SHU within 8-3 for the Saints' final run.
