Truax Pounds Three Homers as Softball Opens with Split at Oakland City

OAKLAND CITY, Ind. -- The Siena Heights softball team opened its season with a split at non-conference Oakland City on Saturday. The Saints won game one, 5-1, and lost game two, 8-6.

The Saints will return to action again on Sunday against Calumet at noon EST (11 a.m. CST), taking place at neutral-site Oakland City.

 

Game one: Siena Heights 5, Oakland City 1

Shyann Truax had a big day with three home runs over the two games. She was the winning pitcher and homered in game one.

Siena Heights fell behind 1-0 in the first inning before taking the lead for good on a two-run homer by Eva Curtis in the fourth.

Faith Breinager added an RBI double in the fifth, Truax blasted her dinger in the sixth and Alexis Hirst had an RBI double in the seventh.

Truax allowed one run on four hits while totaling 10 strikeouts and one walk.

 

Game two: Oakland City 8, Siena Heights 6

Truax continued pounding the ball with another two homers in the nightcap. She batted 2-for-3 with three RBI. Kat Moreau added a 2-for-4 outing.

The Saints got on the board with a solo homer by Truax in the second. SHU fell behind 2-1 in the bottom half before regaining a 3-2 edge in the third.

Truax hit a game-tying homer in the fifth, knotting the contest at 4-4, before Oakland City scored once in the fifth and three times in the sixth.

A late comeback effort fell short as the Saints scored twice in the seventh.
