Softball 8th in NAIA Team GPA in the 2022 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Teams Top 10; 13 Saints Make Individual List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced the 2022 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete awards on Monday afternoon. The Saints made the top-10 team GPA list in the eighth spot with a team GPA of 3.553, while 13 SHU softball players from the 2022 season made the individual list.

Lily Guerra (Rockford, Mich.) and Sam Hill (Willis, Mich.) made the individual list for the third time. Two-time recipients were Alexis Hirst (Clinton, Mich.), Julia Hogston (Dundee, Mich.), Brenna Nurenberg (Alto, Mich.), Lyndsey Pena (Macomb, Mich.), and Emily Spinek (Sterling Heights, Mich.). In addition, Chloe Bowers (New Boston, Mich.), Courtnee Chappetta (Holland, Ohio), Lauren Dioszegi (New Boston, Mich.), Taylor Eppard (Perrysburg, Ohio), Abby Fisher (Palmyra, Mich.), and Shyann Truax (Charlotte, Mich.) made their debut on the individual honor list.

"I am beyond ecstatic about the success our students have in the classroom, both as a team, as well as individually," said SHU head coach Laura Klutsarits. "Their hard work does not go unnoticed. To be able to excel on both the field and in the classroom with the time commitment required of both is a testament to who our students are, their work ethic, and their understanding of the term student-athlete. We have a strong history of success in the classroom within our program, and it is one of the things I am most proud of as a coach."

The Saints have made the top-10 team GPA list seven times (2012-13, 2014-15, 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2020-21, 2021-22) since the team's first recognition in the 2012-13 academic year. In addition, SHU topped the list in both the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons.

A total of 7,527 student-athletes were named to the 2022 Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes list. The team rankings and individual honors are submitted by member head coaches and recognize the academic prowess of softball teams across the association's membership categories.

Siena Heights was the only Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) member on the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Top-10 Team list.
