Saints’ Season Ends on First Day of WHAC Tournament

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Siena Heights softball team was eliminated from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament after losing to top-seeded Madonna and four-seeded Indiana Tech. The Saints (21-20) fell to the Crusaders 8-5 before ending the day with an 8-4 loss to the Warriors.

Game One: Madonna def. Siena Heights, 8-5 – 7 innings

Kelsey Uhl (L, 7-11) led the Saints with a hit in all four of her plate appearances. She had two doubles and four RBIs on the day while also pitching 4.2 innings. Sam Hill recorded the other two hits for SHU in the game as she went 2-for-3.

Uhl gave the Saints a 2-0 lead in the third after a double to right-center scored Hill and Julia Hogston. Madonna flipped the advantage in the fourth with back-to-back doubles and a single to score four runs and put the score at 4-2.

Madonna put another four runs on the board in the fifth, and the lead was extended to 8-2 with only two innings left to play. Lauren Dioszegi reached home plate on a ground out in the sixth, and the Saints cut the deficit to 8-3. Uhl hit another double to score Hill and Hogston, but the rally would fall short.

Game Two: Indiana Tech def. Siena Heights, 8-4 – 7 Innings

Hill (2-for-4), Courtnee Chappetta (2-for-4), Uhl (2-for-2), and Hogston (2-for-3) recorded two hits in the losing effort. Hill tallied a run while Uhl and Hogston registered an RBI. Uhl pitched all six innings for the Saints in game two as well.

Indiana Tech took a 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the first with a single to left field. Maddie Herrera scored off an error by the Warriors to tie the score at one run each. Hogston hit an RBI single to take a 2-1 lead. Sam Spicer made it home to score an insurance run for the Saints.

Four runs in the third flipped the lead back to Indiana Tech as the Warriors created a 5-3 advantage. An RBI single up the middle extended the margin to 6-3 in the fourth inning. The gap was moved to 8-3 after two more baserunners crossed the plate in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Uhl added to her fantastic day with another RBI double that scored Chappetta to move four-runs closer to Indiana Tech. But, again, the rally fell short as the Warriors got the outs they needed to seal the win.
