Softball Ends Regular Season With WHAC Doubleheader Against Indiana Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights softball team lost both games in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader against Indiana Tech on Wednesday afternoon. The Saints (21-18, 10-12 WHAC) ended the regular season with 21 wins overall and ten victories in conference play.

Game One: Indiana Tech def. Siena Heights, 7-0 – 7 Innings

Sam Hill (1-for-3), Kelsey Uhl (1-for-3), and Kat Moreau (1-for-2) recorded hits for SHU in game one. Uhl (L, 7-10) pitched all seven innings for the Saints. She surrendered eight hits while striking out five Warriors in the losing effort.

The Warriors took the lead in the second inning after a double to left-center scored one runner. The next play saw an errant throw by Siena Heights allow two additional runs to score to extend the lead to 3-0. A triple to right field scored another run before a final run was scored on a ground out to shortstop to put Indiana Tech ahead 5-0. Two more runs were added in the fourth inning for the 7-0 final score. The Saints missed an opportunity to put points on the board during the third inning with one out and the bases loaded.

Game Two: Indiana Tech def. Siena Heights, 5-1 – 7 Innings

Courtnee Chappetta recorded the only hit for the Saints in game two with her solo home run over the left-center field fence in the fourth inning. Jordan Green (L, 10-6) started in the circle for SHU. Green pitched three innings before Shyann Truax relieved her for two innings of work. Uhl returned to pitch two more innings in game two.

The Warriors broke the deadlock in the third after a double brought a runner to cross the plate for the 1-0 lead. Three more runs were added in the top of the fourth to increase the deficit to 4-0. Chappetta responded with a two-out home run over the left-center wall that put SHU on the board, 4-1. The game's final run was scored on a throw to second on a stolen base attempt in the seventh inning.

UP NEXT

The SHU softball team will now await the rest of the teams in the WHAC to finish their regular-season games to see if they clinch a spot in the WHAC tournament that is slated to begin on Wednesday, May 4. The league will announce the tournament matchups following the final regular-season games on Sunday, May 1.
