Softball Suffers Setback Against Blue Devils

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights softball team suffered a setback with two losses against Lawrence Tech in a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference games on Tuesday afternoon. The Saints (21-16, 10-10 WHAC) fell 5-1 in game one before a heartbreaking 5-4 loss in game two ended the day.

Sam Hill registered two hits to lead the Saint offense in the day's opening game. Abby Fisher recorded the lone RBI for SHU in the losing effort. Kelsey Uhl (L, 7-8) recorded a hit while also pitching 7.0 innings, where she recorded four strikeouts.

The Blue Devils took the 3-0 lead in the third inning after a three-RBI triple to right field broke the scoreless deadlock. Then, Fisher cracked the scoreboard for SHU with a single to right field that brought Lauren Dioszegi home and cut the deficit to 3-1 in the fourth.

Lawrence Tech registered a run in the sixth and seventh innings to extend the lead to 5-1, where it would remain as the game went final.

Game Two: Lawrence Tech def. Siena Heights, 5-4 – 7 innings

Six Saint players recorded a hit in the game two defeat. Lily Guerra, Uhl, Kat Moreau, and Fisher recorded an RBI for SHU. Jordan Green started as pitcher for Siena Heights. Green sat down three in her six innings of work. Uhl entered in the final inning and recorded the loss in the contest.

The Saints jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning. Guerra doubled down the left-field line to score Hill before Uhl hit an RBI groundout to bring Guerra home.

Moreau hit a sacrifice fly to right field to bring Maddie Herrera to the plate to extend the lead to three runs. Fisher singled to center field to score Dioszegi and SHU was up 4-0 heading into the fifth. A triple to left-center followed by a SHU error scored a run for LTU in the bottom half of the fifth to bring the score to 4-1.

Lawrence Tech rallied in the team's final chance to put runs on the board to capture a 5-4 lead in the seventh. The Blue Devils completed the win with a three-up-three-down bottom half.

UP NEXT

The SHU softball team will look to bounce back with a pair of WHAC games against Indiana Tech tomorrow, April 27. The first game of the series is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
