Softball Splits at Michigan-Dearborn

DETROIT – The Siena Heights softball team split a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) doubleheader Sunday afternoon. The Saints (21-13, 10-7 WHAC) took game won 1-0 before a 4-0 loss wrapped the day.

Game One: Siena Heights def. UM-Dearborn, 1-0 – 7 innings

Courtnee Chappetta led the Saints in game one with a solo home run that was the difference in the game. Lily Guerra also recorded a hit. Kelsey Uhl (W) got the start at pitcher. She struck out four batters in her 7.0 scoreless innings of work.

The game remained scoreless through three innings, with both teams moving baserunners into scoring position.

Chappetta hit her home run to break the tie in the top half of the fourth inning, which proved to be the difference. However, the Saints' defense held firm through the remaining innings, never allowing UM-Dearborn any other scoring opportunities.

Game Two: UM-Dearborn def. Siena Heights, 4-0 – 7 innings

SHU was held to one hit in game two, that hit coming from Guerra. Jordan Green and Uhl pitched three innings apiece in the seven innings. Green finished with six strikeouts, and Uhl recorded two strikeouts.

The Wolverines scored three runs in the bottom half of the first inning to take an early lead, 3-0. Another run in the bottom of the third extended the lead to 4-0, and the Saints could never recover and get a rally going to break the scoreless streak.
