Softball Drops Two at #20 Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. – The Siena Heights softball team fell to 20th-ranked Madonna in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (20-13, 9-7 WHAC) lost game one 9-0 in five innings before a 5-1 defeat in game two.

Game One: Madonna def. Siena Heights, 9-0 – 5 Innings

The Saint bats struggled to get going in the first time as the team registered two hits, with Maddie Herrera (1-for-2) and Kat Moreau (1-for-1) recording the hits on the board. Kelsey Uhl (L, 6-7) started in the circle for SHU.

The Crusaders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom half of the first inning before extending the lead to 7-0 after a five-run third. The game's final two runs were tallied in the fourth inning as the score settled into the final result.

Game Two: Madonna def. Siena Heights, 5-1 – 7 innings

Siena Heights had three batters record a hit in game two. Sam Hill (1-for-3), Courtnee Chappetta (1-for-3), and Uhl (1-for-3) added a hit to their stat lines. Chappetta recorded an RBI and a run with her solo home run in the top of the fourth. Jordan Green (L, 10-4) struck out four Madonna hitters in her 3.1 innings of work. Uhl pitched in relief and struck out four batters in 2.2 innings.

Chappetta gave SHU the lead with her home run over the left-field fence in the top of the fourth inning. However, the home team erased the slight lead with a five-run bottom half of the inning, proving to be the difference.

The Saints will look to bounce back with a pair of WHAC games at Michigan-Dearborn tomorrow, April 24. The first game is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
