ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights softball team split with the University of Northwestern Ohio in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (18-11, 7-5 WHAC) fell 10-3 in a sloppy game one before ending game two in the sixth inning with a 9-1 win over the Racers.

Game One: UNOH def. Siena Heights, 10-3 – 7 innings

Kelsey Uhl (L, 5-6) helped herself out offensively with two hits in her three at-bats. She scored a run and reached base on a walk. From inside the circle, Uhl recorded ten strikeouts in seven innings of work while surrendering five earned runs. Courtnee Chappetta (1-for-4) hit a double and recorded an RBI in the losing effort. Sam Spicer (1-for-1) brought a runner home for Siena.

Chappetta gave SHU the lead with an RBI double to left-center, scoring Lily Guerra in the bottom half of the first inning. UNOH erased the deficit in the second when a bases-loaded play allowed two baserunners to score to flip the advantage to the Racers, 2-1. The following play saw a third run score as the lead extended to 3-1.

Spicer hit a single that scored Uhl and cut the deficit to just one run. However, a double by UNOH in the fourth scored two more runners as the visitors pulled away to a 5-2 advantage.

An error by the Racers allowed a run to score for SHU to put the margin at 5-3. UNOH scored two additional runs in the top half of the sixth inning, and the lead increased to four. The Racers recorded three more scores in the seventh to put the score where it would remain at 10-3.

Game Two: Siena Heights def. UNOH, 9-1 – 6 innings

Sam Hill (2-for-4) and Guerra (2-for-3) led offensively with two hits. Hill scored twice while Guerra crossed home plate three times and tallied two RBIs. Guerra, Chappetta, and Kat Moreau hit doubles in the nightcap. Jordan Green (W, 9-3) pitched all six innings, giving up just one earned run while striking out five batters.

In game two, Guerra got the scoring going for Siena with an RBI double that scored Hill for the 1-0 lead. An error by UNOH gave Uhl a base as Guerra scored to double the lead at 2-0.

The Racers cut the deficit in half with a run in the top half of the second inning. However, Guerra hit another double to score Hill to push the lead back to two runs. Maddie Herrera extended the advantage with a sacrifice fly that scored Guerra, and SHU was leading 4-1 after two.

Shyann Truax singled up the middle to score Alexis Hirst and Kennedy Keller in the bottom of the fifth and stretch the Saint lead to 6-1. Chappetta then doubled to center field to score Herrera and Guerra in the bottom of the sixth before Uhl finished off the game with a single through the right side that brought Chappetta home and ended the day early with a 9-1 final after six innings of play.
