Saints Take Two Wins in Doubleheader Versus Carlow

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights softball team won both games in five innings against Carlow on Friday afternoon. The Saints (10-5) won game one 11-3 in walk-off fashion before doing the same in game two with an 8-0 decision.

Game One: Siena Heights def. Carlow, 11-3 | Five-Innings

In the third inning, Sam Hill (1-for-3) tallied her first career home run with a three-run bomb over the right-field fence. Hill led SHU with three RBIs while also scoring two runs. Courtnee Chappetta (2-for-3) and Alyssa Marshall (2-for-2) led the way with two hits in the contest. Both Chappetta and Marshall registered triples in the game and brought one baserunner home while scoring a run. Alexis Hirst (1-for-1) and Abby Fisher (1-for-3) added doubles to the batting stats. Kelsey Uhl (W, 3-2) pitched all five innings for a complete game. The senior allowed four hits, three earned runs and struck out three batters in the win.

The Celtics scored first with a two-run double in the opening inning of game one. Chappetta responded with a triple that brought Julia Hogston (1-for-2) home to cut the deficit in half, 2-1. Uhl singled on the next play to score Chappetta, and things were even at two runs.

Marshall scored on a wild pitch to give SHU the 3-2 lead in the bottom of the 2nd-inning. Maddie Herrera (1-for-3) then singled to left-center to bring Hogston home for the second time, and the lead grew to two runs.

An infield single scored a run for Carlow as the visitors inched closer, 4-3, in the top of the third. Fisher then hit a double to center that scored Lauren Dioszegi, and Marshall drilled a triple to right field that scored Fisher to extend the lead to 6-3. Kat Moreau walked then stole second before Hill hit her three-run home run to put the score at 9-3, heading into the fourth inning. Hirst then hit her walk-off double down the left-field line that brought both Hill and Marshall home, and the Saints won the first game 11-3 in the fifth inning.

Game Two: Siena Heights def. Carlow, 8-0 | Five-Innings

Hill (2-for-4), Chappetta (2-for-3), and Lily Guerra (2-for-2) each had two hits in the second game of the day. Chappetta and Guerra both scored two runs to help the winning effort. Guerra hit two doubles while Uhl also recorded a double in her one registered at-bat. Jordan Green (W, 5-2) caused fits for the Celtics in the circle as she pitched all five innings and allowed only two hits while striking out three hitters.

The scoring began in the bottom of the second inning when Uhl hit a double to left-center that scored Chappetta to give SHU the 1-0 lead. Guerra then doubled to left-center to bring Uhl home, and the Saints lead doubled to 2-0. Hill singled to short, moving Lyndsey Pena (0-for-2) to third and Guerra home as the score sat at 3-0 heading into the third inning. The score stagnated until the bottom of the fifth when Sam Spicer (1-for-2) hit a single to left field that scored Chappetta. A wild pitch scored Hirst before Fisher hit a single to left field that scored two runs to push the lead to 7-0. Game two ended on a wild pitch that scored Moreau for the 8-0 final.
