Softball Snags Two Wins on Day Three of Spring Break Trip

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Siena Heights softball team earned victories over Cardinal Stritch (4-0) and Trinity Christian (3-2) following the third day of the Spring Break games. The Saints (4-1) have now won four out of their first five games to start the 2022 season.

Game One: Siena Heights def. Cardinal Stritch, 4-0

Sam Hill (2 for 3), Courtnee Chappetta (2 for 3), and Shyann Truax (2 for 3) each tallied two hits in the game against the Wolves. Maddie Herrera led the way with two RBIs. Truax (W, 1-0) also contributed in the circle, pitching a complete game where she allowed just two hits and recorded a career-high 13 strikeouts.

Things remained scoreless through the first four innings of play. Julia Hogston singled with one out and runners on first and second. The latter runner was Kat Moreau, who crossed the plate for an unearned run to put SHU ahead 1-0. Herrera gave the Saints some insurance runs when she hit a two-RBI single. Then, Truax hit a home run in the 6th-inning that gave the Saints the 4-0 lead that would be the result.

Game Two: Siena Heights def. Trinity Christian, 3-2

Five SHU players recorded a hit to help the cause in game two. Kelsey Uhl tallied two of the three RBIs for Siena Heights. Jordan Green (W, 2-0) finished her complete game by surrendering six hits, one earned run, and five strikeouts.

The Trolls took the 1-0 lead in the bottom half of the 2nd-inning with an RBI double. The score remained there until a three-run top half of the 7th-inning flipped the lead to the Saints. Chappetta singled before an error advanced her a base and scored Hogston. On the next at-bat, Uhl smacked a two-RBI single that brought Chappetta and Herrera across Homeplate and forced a pitching change. Trinity Christian began to rally with a run courtesy of a SHU error that cut the lead to 3-2, but the Saints held out to earn the third out and take the narrow victory.
