Softball Chosen Eighth in WHAC Preseason Poll

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced the 2022 WHAC Softball Preseason Coaches Poll on Tuesday afternoon. The Siena Heights softball squad was chosen to finish eighth in the poll--two spots down from where they finished in the standings last season.

The Saints return 2nd-Team All-WHAC infielder Sam Hill and pitcher Jordan Green for this season. Hill was the team's leader in hits with 42 and a batting average of .382. Green finished 9-7 inside the circle for the SHU while striking out a team-high 104 hitters and boasting a 2.48 ERA. Siena Heights also brought in freshman Courtnee Chappetta to add depth to the infield and Abby Fisher to possibly contribute to the pitching rotation.

The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank each team in the WHAC from 1-12. Twelve points are given to the team at the top of the list, 10 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.

Aquinas rose one spot from last season to claim the top spot in the preseason poll with 139 points after receiving seven of the 12 first-place votes. Defending WHAC champion, Madonna fell to second with five first-place votes for 135 points. UNOH finished with 114 points for third, edging fourth-place Concordia (Mich.) by one point. Lawrence Tech claimed fifth with 83 points while Cornerstone was sixth with 77. UM-Dearborn was seventh with 71 points while the Saints claimed eighth with 70 points. Indiana Tech tallied 47 points for ninth. Cleary (46 points), Lourdes (30), and Rochester (12) filled the final three spots.
