Haley Rose, Sam Hill, and Jordan Green All Named Second Team All-WHAC; Nine Saints In Total Receive WHAC Awards

Siena Heights senior softball player Haley Rose joined junior Sam Hill and freshman Jordan Green on the second-team All-WHAC when the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) announced the annual award winners this evening during the first round of tournament games. Hill and Rose were also recipients of the WHAC All-Academic honor.

Rose led the Saints with 10 doubles (t-7th WHAC), two home runs, and slugging percentage (.557) this season. She was second with 36 hits. Her 16 RBIs were third-best and her .371 batting average ranked second in the team listings.

"Haley had a great year for us," said SHU head coach Laura Klutsarits. "Her bat in the middle of the lineup came up with some very big hits and RBI for us. She had a very solid year defensively at first base as well.  It's unfortunate that we only had the opportunity to really see Haley for one year after transferring in last year and having the COVID shutdown.  She has been a strong player and strong student since she got here and has been the type of person and teammate we want in our program."

Hill led the team in at-bats (110), hits (42), and batting average (.382). She was the team's leadoff hitter for the season and finished with an on-base percentage of .424.

"Sam had another very strong season for us," said coach Klutsarits. "Her presence at the top of the lineup is always so crucial, as it has been for her entire career. When Sam gets on base, good things happen! She did so with regularity all season and was a tough out virtually every at-bat. Sam's work defensively this year was another step up as well. She made great strides defensively at third base this year which was an important part of our success as well. You don't see very many lead-off hitters come through with RBI's on a regular basis and that is something we can count on Sam for as well. She has had a couple of very strong years and we look forward to seeing what next year brings in her senior season!"

Green made 20 appearances in the circle for the Saints as a freshman. She finished the year with a 9-7 record with 104.1 innings pitched and 104 strikeouts (3rd in WHAC). Her 2.48 ERA led the SHU pitching stats and was sixth-best in the WHAC conference on the season.

"Jordan had an outstanding year in her freshman campaign," stated Klutsarits. "She came through time and time again with clutch strikeouts in big situations and gave us a solid one-two punch with our starting pitchers day in and day out. If we didn't win the first game of a day, we always had complete confidence that Jordan would give us a chance to win the second game of the day with her ability on the mound.  In a game that is dominated by pitching, Jordan was simply one of the best in the league this year.  The future is so bright for her and our team with young players like Jordan moving forward."

Brenna Nurenberg was the SHU representative on the Champions of Character team. She was also an All-Academic selection. Lily Guerra, Janelle Krueger, Milah Loose, Alyssa Marshall, and Hannah Pennington were also WHAC All-Academic team members.
