ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped both games in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) home doubleheader against Aquinas on Thursday afternoon. The Saints came up short 6-2 in game one before a 7-1 loss ended the day in game two. This was the first varsity softball home game for SHU in 729 days. Haley Rose had the hot bat for Siena in the losing effort as she finished the day 4-6 at the plate including a 3-3 showing in game two.

THE BASICS

Final Scores: Aquinas def. SHU, 6-2 & 7-1

Location: Adrian, Michigan (Christensen Memorial Field)

Records: Aquinas (21-7, 13-3 WHAC), Siena Heights (11-9, 2-4 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The visiting Saints got on the board first in game one with a home run to left field at the top of the 2nd-inning. An RBI double and a dropped fly ball in the following inning extended the Aquinas advantage to 3-0. Another defensive error by SHU allowed a runner to cross the plate in the 4th-inning to put the lead at four runs. A two-RBI double a few plays later gave the AQ Saints a 6-0 lead. The SHU Saints rally came in the 6th-inning when Rose doubled to left field to score Sam Hill. Sam Spicer grounded out but brought Lily Guerra home for the second run for Siena, but the effort would fall short.

Aquinas scored a run in the second, third, and fourth to jump out to a 3-0 lead in the second game. A triple by the visitors scored two more runs in the top half of the 5th-inning to increase the lead to 5-0. Maddie Herrera singled to second, scoring Milah Loose to tally the only run for the home Saints in the game. Aquinas tacked on two more in the final inning before putting the game away.
